TYB Divisions

Tewksbury Youth Baseball age cutoff date is April 30th.  All registrations should be based off of your child's age as of April 30th of the season you are registering for, not their age at the time of registration. Click here for the league's age eligibility chart.

TYB LEVELS AND DESCRIPTIONS

Below is a basic summary of which ages are eligible for each division.  Please see more detailed information for each division below the summary.

  • 13-16 year olds may register for our Seniors division only.  They are not eligible for any other division.

  • 12 year olds are eligible for our Majors Division or our AAA Division.  All 12 year olds that register and try out for Majors will be placed on a Majors roster.  12s may also "freeze" in and register for the AAA division if their skill level is better suited for the AAA division than the Majors division.

  • 11 year olds are eligible for our Majors Division or our AAA Division.  Majors roster availability for 11s is limited, so any 11yo that is not drafted onto a Majors team following try-outs will automatically be placed in the AAA division.  11s may also "freeze" in and register for the AAA division if their skill level is better suited for the AAA division than the Majors division.

  • 10 year olds may only register for the AAA division.  They are not age eligible for any other division.

  • 9-year-olds are eligible to register for AAA or AA. AAA roster availability for 9s is limited and thus, any 9 that is not drafted onto a AAA team will automatically be placed in the AA division.  9-year-olds can also register directly to play in AA if their skill level is better suited for the AA division.

  • 8-year-olds are eligible to play in AA.  They are not age eligible for any other division.

  • 6 & 7 year olds are eligible for Minor Farm (coach pitch)

  • 5 year olds are eligible for T-Ball

  • 4 year olds are eligible for Clinic.

Division Information

SENIORS (13-16YO)

The Senior league, for ages 13 and above, is the highest level where individual teams are coached by adult volunteers.  These games are fast-paced and competitive as the players demonstrate the full effect of their development through our program.   Seniors games are typically played on weekday evenings,  Monday-Thursday.  Games are officiated by patched umpires that have been formally trained by local umpiring associations. Cost is $200 and includes $15 town user fee.

MAJORS (11-12YO)

The Majors league is a highly competitive league which closely follows the rules established by Cal Ripken Baseball.  Youth at this level are ages 11 and 12 years old.  Games are officiated by patched umpires.  Games are played on a 50/70 diamond and are usually played on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays*.  Practice schedules are determined by coaches.  Cost is $200 and includes $15 town user fee.

AAA (9-12YO) AND AA (8-9YO)

The Minors league is divided into two levels:  AA for 8 and 9-year-olds and AAA for ages 9 to 12.

In the AA division, your young athletes begin to pitch with some modifications (for example, coaches will step in to pitch should walking a batter result in a run).  All eight year olds are required to play in AA.   AA games are typically played on one weekday evening (either on Monday or Wednesday) and Saturday evenings*.  AA games are officiated by team coaches in conjunction with teen umpires.  Practice schedules are determined by coaches.   Cost for AA is $200 and includes $15 town user fee.

In AAA, the game becomes more competitive and rules begin to more closely align with those of Cal Ripken Baseball.  Youths aged 11 and 12 not playing in the majors must play AAA. AAA games are typically played on Tuesday and Friday evenings.* Games at these levels are officiated by teen umpires trained within our program.  Practice schedules are determined by coaches.  Cost for AAA is $200 and includes $15 town user fee.

MINOR FARM / COACH PITCH (6-7YO)

The minor farm league is an instructional league where players aged 6-7 have an opportunity to learn more about the game of baseball and build on their skills from T-ball.  This level is also commonly referred to as “coach pitch” as youth do not pitch in this league.  While players will continue to build upon their foundation skills, focus starts to shift from skill development towards understanding game-play.  Games are played with modified rules to maximize opportunities for success. Minor Farm starts mid-April and goes through early June, with typically two games per week with one additional practice a week.   Games are typically played on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings.*  Practice schedules are determined by coaches.   Cost is $180 and includes $15 town user fee.

T-BALL (5YO)

T-ball is a skills-focused developmental division where players age five are introduced to the fundamentals of baseball in a fun and low-pressure atmosphere.  This division is evenly split between skill development and introducing the basics of game-play.  For the majority of the season, T-Ball will consist of 1 practice/week and 1 game/week.  Towards the end of the season, schedules will shift to include 2 games/week for additional game-play.   Each practice/game will last 60-90 minutes. T-ball starts mid-April and goes through early June.  All players age 5 should register for T-Ball, regardless of prior playing experience. Games are played on Saturday mornings, with additional games on weeknights towards the end of the season.* Practice schedules are determined by coaches.   Cost is $130 and includes $15 town user fee.

CLINIC (4YO)

Clinic is a skills-focused developmental division where players aged four are introduced to the fundamentals of baseball in a fun and low-pressure atmosphere.   This division is almost entirely focused on skill development.  Players will be divided into groups and each group will go through various stations - hitting, throwing, base running, and catching - at every session.  Clinic meets once per week. Towards the end of the season, Clinic will meet twice/week and will include a few scrimmages to introduce the players to the flow of a baseball game. Sessions start mid-April and goes through early June.  Sessions are typically held on Monday evenings.*  All sessions will last approximately 60 minutes.  All that's needed is a glove - cleats are not necessary (sneakers are fine) and bats are optional as they will be provided. Cost is $100 and includes $15 town user fee.

*Schedules are subject to change from year-to-year.  Schedules are based on the number of teams we have in the league, as that determines overall field availability.
